Ram Sonar Pooja – A Sacred Tradition of the Vishwakarma Community
Ram Sonar Pooja is a unique ritual observed by the Sonar (goldsmith) subgroup of the Vishwakarma community. Rooted in the lineage of Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect, this pooja honors Ram Sonar, a legendary craftsman symbolizing perfection, purity, and ethical workmanship.
The pooja is usually performed on Amavasya (new moon day), when families worship their tools, invoke ancestors, and seek blessings for prosperity, skill, and honesty in trade. A balance (takkadi) and goddess blessings are central symbols, representing fairness, wealth, and purity.
While dates vary by region — Aadi Amavasai in Tamil Nadu, Mahalaya Amavasya in the East, Somvati Amavasya in parts of the West — the essence remains the same: gratitude for craft, unity in community, and respect for heritage.
